Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto or better known as Pablo Neruda was a talented Chilean poet and diplomat. It might come as a quite surprise but he became famous at the age of thirteen for writing in a wide range of styles, including passionate love or surrealist poems.
His love poetry can be characterised like an adult one because he speaks honestly about his intimate feelings for a woman. Pablo’s emotions are human-like, he has both tender and passionate feelings which he eagerly reveals in lyrics. Pablo Neruda`s love poetry inspires readers not to conceal emotions but at least put them in black and white.
“ I love you in this way because
I do not know any other way of loving but this,
in which there is no I or you,
so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand,
so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.”
Pablo Neruda`s love poetry is intimate and rich in vocabulary. Being very young, this poet managed to describe complicated feelings between the two in a couple. Book of Twilights, his first volume of verse, was released by Editorial Nascimento. Twenty Love Poems and A Desperate Song, another collection of love poems, was published as well. However, it is impossible to ignore that it was very controversial for its eroticism, keeping in mind the young age of the author.
When describing loving emotions ishis short poems, the author touched the theme of nature. There are lots of comparison that the writer does to explain his inner world. He says that love can be compared with spring and flowers. It is something fresh and new for every person.
